Fly on any day of the month, wherever you choose, then post a score.

NEW, New, new

This year we will be running a new Postal Event for Radian Gliders. It’s designed to be an easy to fly electric soaring event. Launch a Park Zone Radian glider and climb for 15 seconds. Now try to soar the model for a total flight time of at least 5 minutes. No spot landing - you just need to be in the air at the end of the 5 minutes, then land on the field. Your score is the number of seconds that the model flies for, up to a maximum of 300 points.

If you don’t like your score do another flight. The single score that counts is your last flight. That’s the one score that you will submit by email. There’s to be no “cherry picking”. You don’t get to choose your best flight. It’s your last flight that counts. You can fly once or as often as you like during each month. As soon as you decide that you have done your “last” competition flight for the month, email off your score to Gary Andrews at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Normally the event will run from February till October and your year’s score will be the total of your best 6 months scores. This year we will start in June and your total score will be the best 4 monthly scores you submit. If we have a tie at the end of October we will have a fly-off in November with no maximum score.

The longest flight wins.

The detailed Radian Glider rules are here on the AEFA website. When you read them please note that, in the

Radian Postal competition, normalized scores are not used and there is no requirement to land within 7

minutes.

Oh, and while you’re out flying your Radian, why not do a Limited Electric Glider (LEG) Postal flight too. It’s a more demanding task with a precision landing required but why not give it a go. You stand to win LEG outright or win the Radian division of LEG by having the highest placed Radian in the LEG competition. Again, the rules are here on the AEFA website in the rules library.

For the rest of the year you can also fly F5J, under the same sort of arrangement.  You will need to fit an approved altimeter logger, fly for 10 minutes, attempt a spot landing and send Gary the file from your altimeter logger along with the landing distance. If you fly longer than 10 minutes you lose your landing points. You can do as many flights as you like but only the last flight for the month counts. The full F5J rules are also in the rules library.

Radian, F5J and LEG results can be emailed to Gary.

ELECTRIC OLD TIMER

  1. Duration rules are unchanged (10 min contest, 35 sec motor run, battery size based on wing area).
  2. Height Limited Old Timer (new 7 min contest) - model must be fitted with a limiter to cut power at 200m. There are no battery capacity rules.
  3. Texaco task time has been reduced to 10 minutes so battery rules have changed. Use the calculator in the spreadsheet to determine your new max battery allowance. Note that ballasting is permitted if you wish to fit a larger battery.
  4. 1/2A Texaco task time has been reduced to 10 minutes so battery rules have changed. Fit either a 2S 460 mAh or 3S 310 mAh battery. These are maximum capacities.

You can access the Electric Old Timer rules via our “AEFA Rules Library” page.

The flight results (4 flights - 3 are counted) may be submitted up to 5 days after the end of each month. Any number of flights can be made in a month, as the aim is to encourage people to fly!!
However only the last 4 flights that are made in the month can be used.
